In all other aspects, RAMTEXs standard purchase, support, and update conditions apply to the new update purchase.

Upgrade qualification key

To ensure that you are qualified to receive free or discounted updates, RAMTEX uses a simple  qualification key  consisting of 3 pieces of information you will find on the (latest) RAMTEX invoice related to the product purchased:

Your Upgrade qualification key =

  • The Invoice number  +
  • The Invoice date  +
  • Your (company) email address

If your company has changed name or email address since, or if you have got the license formally transferred from another company, or there are any similar issues, please feel free to contact RAMTEX.

Versioning procedure for C source libraries

You find the versioning procedures and recommended practices for carrying out C source code library updates with an existing development project described in detail in the versioning.pdf document included in the original display driver library zip file. Check the directory:

  • For Color libraries     gclcd/manual/versioning.pdf
  • For B&W libraries     glcd/manual/versioning.pdf

(the path is relative to the installation root you have used for the zip file content)

When to upgrade

The very liberal license conditions for RAMTEX C source library product allow a company (the license owner) to use the library to generate compiled code for any number of products produced in any quantity.

As described in the versioning.pdf document mentioned above, the recommended procedure assumes that the library user keeps the library product used updated to the latest baseline version at all times. This will enable the library user to make a qualified evaluation of whether any changes, bug fixes, or new features in an update are relevant for their specific GUI design implementation.
It is always an individual judgement when to update. A GUI design implementation for a given final end-product usually only uses a smaller part of the total C source library functionality.

In general, RAMTEX actively tries to fix any bugs as soon as they are detected and then produces a new library baseline version as soon as possible.
We therefore recommend our library users to keep their library product revision updated at all times, or at least until a current development project has reached production. This ensures the product software is up to date when it goes into production.

In general, based on feedback from our customers, RAMTEX finds that most GUI development projects are completed within the first one-year upgrade period. However, if more development time is needed, or if you know that you will continue using a display controller in the same display controller family on a new project, it will be a huge advantage to purchase an update within one of the existing update discount periods (described above).
